The Pavilion - Regatta Park

The ‘Pavilion’ is a 117m long x 12m wide structural steel and timber roof, providing cover for a Café building, amenities building, ‘Water Play’ areas and event spaces.

Impeccably designed by Breakspear Architects, the Pavilion is a significant feature in the new Regatta Park landscape (designed by McGregor Coxall).  The structure comprises of approximately 70 tonne of steel, 8000 lineal meters of sustainably sourced Australian native Blackbutt timber, translucent roofing material, on site stormwater detention systems, 4 x 20m long transparent ‘sliding doors’ for the café and event spaces for protection from the elements.

Many challenges have been faced so far, with La Nina weather patterns bringing 3 major floods plus 2 minor floods since November 2021, creating difficulties with bulk earthworks and compaction efforts in the alluvial site subgrade material.  August & September 2022 provided favourable weather conditions allowing several major milestones to be achieved.

The 330m3 structural slab was completed three stages, enabling the commencement of the erection of the steel superstructure. Landscape works along the riverbank, Police Cottage Car Park, playground area and periphery areas have also progressed very well during this period.

The Pavilion, Café & Amenities is being delivered by Glascott and our major building subcontractor – SDL Projects. Through close collaboration between Penrith City Council, Breakspear Architects, McGregor Coxall, Glascott Landscape & Civil and SDL Projects, the project team has been able to overcome several challenges with site constraints, neighbouring projects (by others), materials availability, weather conditions and COVID delays.

Glascott looks forward to the continuation of this partnership and delivering the highly anticipated Regatta Park Upgrade in the near future.
