Funded by the Federal Government and City of Willoughby, the Gore Hill Park Redevelopment project sought to improve community sports facilities and open space in the Willoughby area.

Glascott Landscape and Civil was awarded the project based on previous experience in sports facilities and holding Federal Safety Accreditation, enabling them to deliver federally funded projects.

Effective stakeholder and contract partner management were critical in the delivery the major earthworks, onsite water retention tanks, and reorientation of the sports oval. The latest all-weather synthetic surface was installed on the oval, boundary fencing and see-saw lighting. An exciting nature playground replaces the old play area, with BBQs, street furniture, ball courts and an outdoor gym. A new amenities and carpark were construction and lighting installed to the precinct surrounds. 

The new facility supports the growing community, accommodating children and families, fitness enthusiasts, the local AFL & Cricket clubs, and the adjacent Royal North Shore Hospital community. 

Key scope:

  • 3 hectare site.
  • Major bulk earthworks, cut & fill approx. 7,000m3
  • Re-orientation of the oval.
  • Install see saw floodlighting.
  • Install 1,650 m2 exposed aggregate concrete pavement (oval perimeter).
  • 700 m2 of cove finished concrete pavements throughout the playground.
  • Demolition of the existing pavilion and change room and construction of modular amenities building.
  • Install underground concrete on-site water detention system (2,400 m3 capacity) .
  • Install major stormwater drainage for catchment of Gore Hill Cemetery & Royal North Shore Hospital area.
  • Construct the synthetic AFL field and cricket pitch.
  • Create a regional scale playground including over 15 play equipment items.
  • Construct approx. 230 LM of in-situ concrete retaining walls and seating walls.
  • Outdoor ball courts: half basketball court, handball courts and outdoor gym.
  • Park lighting, carpark lighting and playground lighting.
  • Ball stop fencing & white picket fence around the oval.
  • Upgrade and realign the carpark.
  • 10,000 new plants and 90 advanced trees installed.
